Product

SupaSoft is made from recycled PET (polyester) and is extremely durable. Because the binder is made from PET it does not degrade or slump over time. This means that SupaSoft will last the life of the building so once installed there is no need to replace.

SupaSoft has a density of 13 kg/m3.

SupaSoft is building insulation made from recycled PET that comes from recycled plastic bottles and packaging. Certainly a great way to use waste single use plastic.

SupaSoft can provide effective sound insulation at thicknesses of 100mm or greater. For thicknesses of less than 100mm we suggest using a denser insulation.

SupaSoft performs about 10% better than conventional fibreglass loft roll. Find our more – read the factsheets available to download.

The fibres in SupaSoft react to fire by rapidly melting away from the flame source.

SupaSoft is non-hazardous and is not a controlled substance under the COSHH regulations. Therefore you don’t need a COSHH data sheet. We can provide a safety data sheet on request.

SupaSoft is made from the same material used to fill jackets, pillows and duvets. SupaSoft will not cause allergies. Therefore if you have a specific allergy to polyester you should take care.

Installation

For an existing building use 250mm.  For added performance in an existing building or for a new build use 300mm.

Always insulate between joists and over joists wherever possible. The layer over the joists should run cross-ways.  This will make sure no air gaps run through the insulation from the ceiling level.

SupaSoft can be used in some pitched roof applications. Please contact us for further advice.

SupaSoft is easy to install. Please read “Insulating your loft with SupaSoft”

Firstly simply do not push the insulation tight against the roofing felt at the eaves level.  Secondly you could insert eaves ventilation trays to maintain a ventilation opening.

For a clean cut use a scalloped edge blade such as an insulation saw or scalloped edge kitchen knife.

We fire test our products rather than specific systems. Because a 1 hour fire rated floor is a system of products, you should consult the floor system supplier.

Certainly as with all insulation, electrical cables should be sufficiently rated if they are passing within insulation.

We don’t recommend using SupaSoft in a brick and block cavity.

You can insulate around IC rated recessed lights. For non-IC rated recessed you must ensure a minimum of 75mm gap between the light and insulation. Alternatively you can protect the light using an appropriate fire rated hood. Ensure all electrical cables are appropriately sited for their rating.

SupaSoft can be used in some wall applications. Please contact us for further advice.

We would recommend installing loft legs over the joists and boarding on top of the loft leg. This ensures that you have an effective depth of insulation. Boarding directly onto joists will significantly reduce the thickness of insulation and therefore the overall performance.

Yes. The amount of additional insulation will depend on how much existing insulation is in place and what condition it is in. For instance if the insulation is in very poor condition we would recommend adding 250mm of SupaSoft on top. However if it is in very good condition, add sufficient SupaSoft to achieve a total insulation thickness of 270mm. Check under and around existing insulation for any signs of damp or water damage.

General

Because we do not install the insulation we are unable to offer a guarantee.

Insulation prevents heat loss which in turn reduces the amount of energy used to heat your home and the amount it costs to heat your home. Insulation does many other things such as preventing your home from getting too hot in the summer and helps reduce the impact of sound.

The best thing to do with off-cuts is to lay them on top of existing insulation.  The off-cuts will help improve the insulation in the areas they are laid on because they increase insulation thickness.

Install SupaSoft to help reduce the amount of energy used to heat your home. What’s more SupaSoft is made from recycled PET that comes from recycled bottles and packaging. SupaSoft take waste single use plastic and puts it to a durable end use, taking it out of circulation for many decades. Because SupaSoft lasts the life of the building, the impact of replacing and disposing of insulation is greatly reduced.

SupaSoft is more expensive than glass fibre but less expensive than rock fibre insulation.

Noise movement can be a very complex problem to solve. However specialist acoustic consultants can help. Use SupaSoft as part of noise reducing measures in a building.

A number of measures are required to reduce noise one of which is to install an absorbent insulation between the joists. Use SupaSoft as an effective absorbent material for depths of greater than 100mm.

There are currently no grants available for SupaSoft.

Yes. SupaSoft is made from the same material as a plastic bottle and it can be recycled in the same way.
